DAY 01
CAYE CAULKER
Explore
We came to Belize from Guatemala, taking a bus booked with GuateGo from Tikal, Guatemala to Belize City, Belize and then transferring to the Belize Water Taxi Ferry from Belize City to Caye Caulker. Belize City is known to be quite dangerous, for locals and tourists alike, so please be careful when you go. Make sure your transportation will take you right to the ferry, or have a ride pre-booked to pick you up from the bus stop or airport and take you to the ferry to avoid walking the Belize City streets alone. Our bus dropped us off right at the ferry which was perfect. You can pre-book the ferry online at Belize Water Taxi, or you can just hop in line and grab a ticket at the booth when you're there.
We had 3 full days on Caye Caulker which was perfect for us - a nice beachy break from our busy, adventurous Guatemalan itinerary - but you really could do everything you want to do on this small island in 2, or even honestly 1 full day if you're pressed for time. We stayed at the Firefly Moon tiny house that we booked on Airbnb, and it was the perfect little apartment for us for our short stay on Caye Caulker. The apartment had a bed, a couch, TV, and small kitchen which proved to have everything we needed. The pool was small but refreshing, and they provided bikes for the guests to use for free to get to and from the "downtown". The island itself is small, so everything is within walking (or biking) distance. Our Airbnb was one of the farthest from the action, and it was still just a 15-20 min walk or 5 min bike ride to the main strip. The location also meant it was nice and quiet and much less busy than the main area which was perfect for sleeping. If you don't stay at the Firefly Moon, make sure your hotel or Airbnb is also away enough from the strip to get a good, peaceful sleep, and ask if they provide bikes or a golf cart to get around. It is not absolutely necessary, but it was a very welcomed bonus that we used everyday.
On your first full day on Caye Caulker, hop on your bike and spend your time exploring the small but magical island and getting to know the different areas, restaurants, bars, tours, stores and what Caye Caulker has to offer. Everyone lives on island time here and lives a very low-key, relaxed lifestyle, so don't try and plan too much, just go with the flow and do whatever you feel like doing that day! Here are a few things you must do at some point during your trip if you go:
-
Have a meal at Maggie's Sunset Kitchen
-
Visit the dog shelter and take a pup for a walk or to the beach for the day
-
Get a couples massage on the beach
-
Rent a kayak and explore the island by water
-
Visit The Split for exciting waterfront bars and a beautiful sunset
-
Stop by the Sip N Dip to float in the water on a tube or hammock while you day drink
-
Play some beach volleyball
-
Visit one of the bars with swings as chairs at the tables to swing as you sip
-
Take a boat tour - either snorkeling, fishing or diving
-
Visit the Sport's Bar on the main strip for trivia night or live music
-
Have a lobster meal from Chef Kareem's BBQ stand by the beach
-
Take the Split to Split ferry to the hidden beach on the other side of the island
-
Visit the Iguana Reef Inn for sunset

A hidden gem in Caye Caulker that you have to visit when you go (we went every evening while we were there) is the beachfront by the Iguana Reef Inn. Every evening at 430pm they feed the sting rays right up on the beach. The stingrays come right up close for their dinner and it is so cool to watch. Even better, there is a stunning dock that goes over the water and a swing a bit deeper in the water that are absolutely picture perfect and provide the best seats for the extraordinary Belizean sunset. You can order drinks from the bar on site for your sunset watch party and they make a delicious espresso martini. It is pure heaven.

DAY 02
CAYE CAULKER
Snorkel
On your second day on Caye Caulker, find a tour operator to take you out on an unforgettable aquatic tour tour of the beautiful Belizean waters. Belize is known for it's ocean wildlife and diving specifically, but snorkeling is much more our speed so we opted for that aquatic adventure. After some tour shopping and bargaining, we landed on Anwar Tours Belize to take us and a few others on a half day, $45 USD snorkeling tour. Our guide was Jan and we had a fantastic time. We saw endless amounts of unique coral, swam with sharks and sting rays, and fed jumping fish in the air! They also provided fresh fruit and water which was delightful. Now, it may seem obvious, but I will remind you to bring sunscreen, a towel, and a hat on your tour. Also, when you are applying sunscreen, don't forget about your back and behind 🍑. When you are snorkeling all day with your back and behind 🍑 up in the air facing the sun, it might get sunburnt. Another unfortunate learning from experience that I went through so you don't have to! Here is a video of all the underwater creatures we had the pleasure of meeting while on Caye Caulker.

DAY 03
CAYE CAULKER
Relax
On your last day on Caye Caulker, spend it relaxing and doing anything you haven't had time to do yet. Maybe you haven't made it over to Maggie's Sunset Kitchen, or rented out a kayak, or day drank at the iconic Sip N Dip. Just make today your own and enjoy soaking up the sun and electric energy Caye Caulker has to offer!
